Characteristics of Sphagnum Moss
Instructions for Use

Waterweed, also known as peat moss, scientific name is Sphagnum Moss, which is the only extant genus of the Sphagnum moss family.
It is characterized by a yellow-white or off-white appearance, often showing various rust spots.

Growth environment and characteristics

These mosses grow in tight clumps in swamps. Their stems have no rhizoids. As the lower part begins to die, the upper part continues to grow.

The large, colorless cells in its "leaves" have a high ability to absorb water, allowing it to grow widely in swamps.

As time goes on, it remains accumulated and turned into peat, further contributing to the conversion of bogs and lakes into land.

It is worth mentioning that peat moss is the main species in acid peat bogs and has a very important contribution to carbon fixation.

Horticulture applications

After drying, sphagnum moss becomes a valuable resource in the gardening world.

It has excellent water retention and air permeability, so it is often used as a planting medium for bonsai plants and can even be used as a substitute for soil.

The aquatic plants we cultivate are all high-grade sphagnum moss from Chile, and their quality is trustworthy.

Characteristics of sphagnum moss

  1. Purely natural products with clean materials and no germs, which can reduce the occurrence of pests and diseases.
  2. It has good water retention and drainage properties, and its water absorption is equivalent to 15-20 times its weight.
  3. It has excellent ventilation performance.
  4. It is not easy to rot and can be used for a long time. It is not necessary to replace all the materials when changing the basin.
  5. It can be used alone or mixed with other substrates, making cultivation easy.

Description

  • It can be used directly to cultivate crops or as a covering for plant roots to retain water.
  • Please soak in water for about 3~5 minutes before use, then squeeze the sphagnum moss with your hands to squeeze out excess water before use.
  • Watering should be done when the sphagnum moss is not completely dry. Once dry, it will be difficult to absorb water again.
  • When changing the medium, if you find that the sphagnum moss is entangled with the roots of the plants, please do not pull it hard to avoid damaging the roots. You should soak it in water and shake it to wash away the old sphagnum moss.
